What on a cricket makes them amke that dang cricket noise? I always heard that it was their back legs when they rub it together. Well it aint that..... I breed crix and I keep them outside but for a few days before I feed them to my leos I keep them in a kritter carrier to make sure they get plenty of food before besides what I feed them outside. Well I have pulled off every back leg of the crix in the carrier cuz they were getting really loud but yet some are still making the noise. Ihave checked 3 times so far and they are all missing their back legs. So what does it?

something to do with the wings. when they chirp the wings flutter. sometimes i get wingless ones, luckily they cant make noise.

The male crickets have partially developed wings that rub together when moved causing vibration and a high pitch chirping sound. Female crickets asde from the ovipositor can also be identified because they have fully developed wings, and these wings come to a point above the ovipositer the fully developed wings do not rub together and are essentially immobile so enly males chirp.

it is the wings, you can tear off the wings and they cant make that noice

Way back when i was engaged and had my water dragon my ex would spend hours catching and tearing off the wings on the crickets to make sure they didn't cherp LOL

I had my cricket cage beside my bed and got up one nite at 1 or 2am to move it to the closet cause i couldn't stand the cherping anymore.

I really like mealworms now hehehe

I got to the point when I go to bed i take the carrier outside. I was up looking through sunshien cage cuz I heard one in there and I tore the legs off since i thought it was from them. But I ended up killing it cuz I got so mad.
