djdhrone May 23, 2003 12:28 PM

has anybody ever seen a red/orange ball python if so what were the prices on them???

Replies (24)

djdhrone May 23, 2003 12:37 PM

it is not a blood red python it has normal ball patterns but is red where the brown/yellow is

Ritchieanul May 23, 2003 11:42 PM

Buy a kingsnake classified account for $53
Buy a $25 dollar ball python.
Soak it in dye or gatorade $5
Take pictures.
Put it for auction.

For $83 dollars you can make tons of money

puppychulo May 23, 2003 02:07 PM

Go to Ralph Davis' site and look up 'Burgundy Balls'. I think that's as close to red that Balls will come in.

Are those in the classifieds legit?

I've seen a little red in hatchling's sides but nothing like those pictures.

I've always wondered about the relation between red and yellow in herps. There seem to be several kinds of yellow too (the yellow seen most in hatchlings and the yellow that increases with age such as in axanthics). Then there is the corn snake "caramel" mutation that may be turning red into yellow. I guess there could be a ball mutation to turn yellow into red. I guess it doesn't matter, I can't buy them, but I'm just wondering if it's a hoax or not.

Josh06 May 23, 2003 05:14 PM

and those bp's look so photoshopped it isnt even funny. It doesnt even look real!!

i can 100% gaurentee that is no hoax. it doesnt look real in person either but it is. i have like 5 other pictures and i have an outside picture to prove it.

DR.EVIL May 23, 2003 06:11 PM

then why did you post a question asking if anyone has seen one and what the prices are?

sounds like you are trying to drum up some business.

btw....is bringing attention to an ad in the classifieds the same as advertising on this forum? Or am I off base here?

"just my $.02"

JM May 23, 2003 08:13 PM

The question was posted several hours before the add. I think he was looking for an idea of what to list them at. I can understand that. I had no idea what an unproven new trait may go for either, but I have a weakness for Red.......(Thats why I noticed the question was posted long before the sale add)....so I made an offer! But apparently I REALLY don't know what an unproven trait is worth, as my offer was WAY low compared to the numbers being bandied about now.

Seller was extremly nice about it though. Didn't get all insulted at my low offer, just very politely let me know I wasn't in the running with that kind of offer. I appreciate that too, thats much kinder than leaving me sitting here hoping I was high bidder when I'm not even in the race!

Josh06 May 23, 2003 08:58 PM

I'm pretty sure hes been back on ks tonight as he did an update on the "red" bps in the classifieds. It seems a little odd that he hasnt answered any of the questions. I'm hoping these red balls are real and he just isnt answering the questions becuase he hasnt had time, but i am a little skeptical.

that is why. i have been answering emails since i posted. heres the deal. i hate that the selling of this snake is like a game i am not much for bull[bleep] but i have no idea what it is worth i have called all of the people that i know and they have never heard of this so this is the only way i can do it. i can give you all the info i have on it. these two came from a imported mother. the mother was unknowingly pregnant and sold to a woman outside of atlanta she doesnt deal to much with odd morph snakes so she sold them to us and we were blown away. the father is unknown and if this color holds and proves to be legit then this is a new morph in my opinion. we are selling them with a 100% money back gaurantee if it was kool aid or die it would come off in a couple of days we have had it for 4 days and no fade. i want to wait for the shed just for my own personal reasons but the people that are bidding want them now. thats why there is the gaurantee. i would love to prove them out but the money is too tempting and i dont breed snakes. i breed bearded/frilled dragons and other lizards but never snakes so i really dont know much and i want this to be used to its full potential. sorry if i come off sounding cheesy i just dont want people to think i am trying to scam . do you really think someone would give me this kind of money and not be gaurenteed this was for real.

Ritchieanul May 24, 2003 12:14 AM

If you are for sure.
And if you really think this MIGHT be a morph.
And if you are not just out to get rich quick.

Call the big breeders.
So far your highest bid is what $10,000 $15,000?

I know at least one of the big breeders can offer you a MINIMUM $75,000

Ritchieanul May 24, 2003 12:36 PM

You say it is from a pregnant imported mother.
but you told this guy they were from a het for caramel albino bred to an imported female.

To all who have become ensnared in this red ball python fiasco, I wish to impart some first hand information that may shed some light on the topic for you.
The vendor claims in one of his posts that he obtained these animals from a woman outside Atlanta. That they were captive hatched from a gravid import female and that the father was unknown.
I personaly spoke with the vendor soon after the first ad was posted in the classifieds and was told that the "red" balls were the result of a breeding of a het. for carmel albino male to an imorted female (presumably by the vendor), and to his shock and amazement two "red" babies were produced.
There seems to be a discrepancy in the origin of these animals. Do the math folks.

I'm afraid your probably right. A source I trust has clued me in that the color change can be induced by soaking the snake in gatorade apparently. I did not know this. I knew that I have soaked a BP in betadine (for injury, yes I made sure to keep her face out of the solution) and it did not induce a color change in the snake (very slight redening of the next shed, nothing like in those photo's) I thought if betadine could not color them, well then nothing would (It sure stains everything else in a hurry!) Probably best that I did not get even close to winning the bidding war, but I am disappointed. I have a definate weakness for red reptiles.

The name of the site that I got the information I trust from is banned from this site (site owner issues) but if your interested, e-mail me and I will provide you with a link. It is not absolute proof, but it is from someone I know (internet know, not personal know) and trust.

djdhrone May 23, 2003 11:33 PM

well then i have 25 dollar ball pythons.

Josh06 May 23, 2003 06:12 PM

Why are you selling them?? Just wondering... Also, where did you get them?? I have never seen a bp like that before and would just wonder why you wouldnt want to keep them and prove them out, since there is nothing else like them. Can you post the other pics??

No offence intended, I certainly hope they are legit and stay this color. Where did you get them and have you had them through a shed yet? Is there any chance someone is pulling a trick on you (i.e. soaked them in die or something)?

HerpCrazy May 23, 2003 08:32 PM

That is the same person who posted the "pastel lemon mix, only $1000....unsexed" for sale that we all think (knew should be the word) was a normal.

Look at the pictures and the shadows.

Personally I think a red ball python would freakin rock, but I ain't gonna send someone my hard earned money on an unknown "morph"

Later,
Jen

You do have a point, the shadow does see red. I am a semi-pro photographer and i know its kinda easy to make something apear different than it really is. Changing an area in PAP or PhotoShop is not hard if you know what your doing.

I am not saying this guy is doing that. Heck, they could be the newest hottest morphs out there.

My question would be, if they were imported, how did they get through? I would think someone would have stopped them like in the home land and called the big breeders with the big $$$'s.

More power to this guy if they work out... But i hope its not a fake and someone gets screwed and the seller is on the HIT list...

Thanks... JAZ

HerpCrazy May 23, 2003 09:43 PM

Exactly!
Do you think that any of the breeders would have passed up real RED balls? I doubt it and I SERIOUSLY doubt that a PET STORE would have them......read his ad, it says call the pet store owner @......

That is a freakin' trip.....

Ritchieanul May 24, 2003 12:05 AM

the belly would be white. Or orange in color.

HerpCRazy May 24, 2003 09:40 AM

That's not what your ad says.....
here it is in case you forgot.....

you wrote........
"the latest bid is $2500. the first pic is an outside pic to show you there is no camera trickery. the last ones white spots on there bellies is from the flash. there are no imperfections on these snakes. i dont think i have ever seen a normal patterned red ball in my whole life. i am almost possitive this is a pair too. they ate yesterday as soon as i put the mice in and are super tame. the pics should say it all. the highest bidder gets one or both depending on what you want. email me on the contact or marshall the pet store owner @ marshalls772@aol.com
all bids go through contact we accept credit card or paypal"

One word.....capital letters.....oh wait that's two words. : )

Warmest Regards,
Jen
