question on dusting earthworms/crawlers

chelonian71 Jun 12, 2008 03:54 PM

When I first had my little boxie I would use multi-vitamin/mineral/amino acid powder with earthworms. I stopped, because earthworms are so wet that they haave a LOT of the powder stuck to them, and when the turtle would bite the food item, the worm would squirm and, among other things, rub up against the eyes. I figured this might be bad for the turtle's eyes. Is it? I haven't dusted earthworms/crawlers for a long time now, and the turtle seems healthy (no pyramiding) without the powder.

What do you guys suggest?

You can dip the worm in only a small amount of powder verses coating the worm copiously with powder. If the turtle is eating other foods you don't have to suppliment with the powder each time, or put it on food that isn't alive. You could also place the turtle in water after feedings so the powder can be washed out of the eyes. Tess
