I've never heard of that subspecies. Is it a nick name for one of them that you've heard.

It is the Japanese beauty snake, Orthriophis taeniurus schmackeri. Not a whole lot known on the natural history but to find more info check out

I've never officially seen any schmackeri at a show or for sale anywhere else before. They look fairly close to the chinese beauties taeniura taeniura as far as looks go by pictures of them in Klaus's book on colubrids. I bought a pair of beauties several years ago that were sold to me as mocquardi but they actually looked much like pics of schmackeri Klaus has in his book. Not especially pretty as far as beauties go but still cool. I checked Klaus's book and he also has them listed as Ryukyu stripe-tailed ratsnakes.
