Great pick ups Dave.

They are going to blow you away with how much they improve over the next 18 months.

Quick picture of an adult Female Hypo Cyclone I produced in 2005.

hypo all the way...they r gorgeous

robertmcphee Jun 12, 2008 09:42 PM

Thank you.

I like them all too!

I think I am leaning towards the non-hypo F2 Cyclones as my favorite so far......

We will see how thing go as I continue to refine them and include other traits into them...

I really like them all. I kinda like the non hypo's better. It shows off more of the cyclone trait.

What do you like about them? LOL

You don't have to answer, I already know.....lol.

How are the two little ones adjusting to the Florida climate?

They really like it down here in Florida. My guess is that they like the heat and the humidity. And the steady supply of rodents. I could not possibly begin to tell you how happy I am with them. Although I think you may be keeping to many up there in Michigan and they would prob like it better down here. There is def something there genetically and I can not wait to do some tinkering with the project. I want an albino cyclone.

I want to produce some anerythrystic and ghost Cyclones....among other things.

Can you imagine what a Super Cyclone Sunglow would look like?

I would settle for a cyclone sunglow. There is no need to be greedy in wanting a super cyclone sunglow. HAHAHAHAHA I think there are alot of breeding trials to be done.

what exactly denotes a Cyclone. I am seeing abberant hypos or aberant normals. They are stunning, but I am confused as to what exactly a cyclone is.

The Cyclone trait is a heritable trait that affects both pattern and color in approximately 50% of the offspring in the first generation.

The Cyclones are indeed aberrant boas. I have produced both hypo and non-hypo versions. The Cyclone trait is not 100% understood. I have my theories on what it is, but at this point it is pointing to a dominant trait. There is still some work to be done and I look forward to proving things further. The Cyclone trait is 100% heritable and will be seen in the first generation.

I have been working on the Cyclones since 2005 when I produced the first litter of Cyclones. This year I was able to breed Cyclone hypo to Cyclone hypo and produced Pos. Super Hypo Cyclones and an Extreme Cyclone non-hypo.

Here are the parents I produced in 2005

I will be compiling a larger write up and posting it on my website to inform everyone of the things I have learned thus far. I will be using the information I have learned from my own breedings as well as breedings that a couple of others have had.

Have you done any breeding trials with a cyclone and harlequin yet? They have a lot of similarities.
The cyclones are beautiful, I was very tempted to pick one up from Nick here in the Bay recently...
I am partial to the hypos but I like all aberrant type patterns especially when it results in a heavy pattern or chain link appearance along with striped tails.
Good luck with your projects!

to the harlequins, and it is possible that they are the same thing. However in the interest of my projects involving the Cyclones, I will not be adding any other "aberrant" blood. While this may answer whether or not it is the same mutation, it could and probably would make things difficult to say the least to determine which babies carry which trait.

I am working on making the Cyclones 100% recognizable (whether in the F1 or F2 generation or thereafter) in a litter. I don't want to succumb to the pit falls that the jungles face. When I sell a snake I want to be able to guarantee either it is or it is not a Cyclone. It is my goal to not have to sell "possibles".

My main objective first off is having fun making things better and figuring out how everything works. My second objective is to provide Cyclones to those who wish to own them and provide them with a complete understanding of how the gene is passed to the offspring.

Thanks for the questions. I enjoy answering them. It allows me to think...lol... and put my ideals down in type, which gets me thinking about other things! lol

I'm the one you're not supposed to speak of!

That is good to hear....

That means that things are getting better.

Thank you for your input.

I like the hypos better, but both are very nice! Question: What makes them 'cyclones'? The aberrancies? Is the 'cyclone' a proven genetic trait? Recessive or co-dominant and is there a proven super? There are a lot of aberrant hypos out there which are not genetic, so I was just curious.

robertmcphee Jun 12, 2008 10:37 PM

What makes the Cyclones stand out from other aberrant Hypos is the fact that I have consistently produced "normal" non-hypo versions of Cyclones. I will be working on eliminating the hypo gene at least on one side. Obviously some babies from this year are possible super hypos, so it will be harder to eliminate the hypo gene. Luckily I have plenty of stock over the past few years who are not hypo.

At this point there are no proven "supers" as this was the first year a possible super Cyclone was produced. There was only two females born and one is possible super Hypo, the other is a non-hypo. Producing the non-hypo Cyclone female will allow me to continue extracting the hypo gene out. If you still have questions don't hesitate to ask them. If you want to see more pictures of litters and how the Cyclone has evolved you can check out my website that has links to my picture account. Feel free to browse.
