nelsoni clutches

Dniles Jun 12, 2008 07:12 PM

So far, the nelsoni have been pulling through this year. Last year all I got was slugs from both of these girls. This year, it looks like I've got two good clutches. Maybe there is something to be said for cooling a male down in the 50's?

The clutch from my 98 female (second picture) is especially rewarding since this is the first time she has produced good eggs in her life! She was the pick of the litter from Doug Moody's 1998 clutches (I picked her out of a pile of them at his place) but she never ate well and was an extremely slow grower. 10 years of working with her and it looks like I might have some babies from her. Father also pictured. These are the real deal nelsoni straight from the one who hatched the first albino.

Hey Derek,

she's fat as a baseball bat right now but hasn't done the pre-egg laying shed yet. It should be coming soon. I'll post a pic of her when she lays.

Way to go Dave!,.........sounds like things are going well at your place.

Yes,...the "real deal" indeed!, but they are uniquely thin white ringed animals too as you well know, while still maintaining a very high band-count(looks like 17 RBR or so)distictive to nelsoni.

It's sort of funny how many wider ringed animals in the hobby are NOT pure lineage nelsoni, yet your thin-ringed animals ARE pure nelsoni!,...just a unique variant of the race.

good luck with them buddy!

Hey Doug. Good observation! That's why I selected the ones I did, for the thin white bands. That male I have, whose white bands aren't particularly thin in my opinion, was by far the thinnest white banded animal in the pile I pulled from which just goes to show that most of them didn't look like that. The female stood out from the crowd in that department as well.

Hope your season is going well.

Very nice indeed... loving the fact that your females still look plump after laying! Plus being 'the real deal' only adds to it! Great snakes and good luck w/ the clutches!

Thanks Chris! The camera must have made them look plump. I think one was still laying when I took the photo. They are incredibly thin right now, but there's plenty of time to plump them up for next year!

Awesome buddy!! I am so happy that you finally got good eggs from that Moody female. I'm sure it will all pay off when those babies make themselves known. Congrats!!
