Woma hatch times?

shotgunzen Jun 12, 2008 08:15 PM

Greets all. I was hoping to get some input on hatch time ranges for womas. My female dropped seven eggs on May 11, and I'm trying to figure out when to expect them. Currently i'm using a hovabator running off a Herpstat to incubate them; eggs are in a smaller plastic container within, and i'm using the method recommended by boamorph. That is, eggs are burried in the V/P mix to maintain humidity but prevent direct condensation. So far all eggs look viable, though I haven't candled them or anything. i'm excited and anxious, as this is my first breeding project....

Yur probably itching to read a response so here ya go...

My Womas typically hatch around 65-75 days at 86-88 degrees
Since yours were laid on 5/11, I would say dont make any vacation plans the last two weeks of July...

I am using maternal incubation this time around so the number of days could change for this clutch.

Spectacular. I'm going out of the country in the end of July for a couple weeks. Luckily my dog sitter knows her way around snakes - I guess I'll have to talk to her about the possibility of egg-sitting. I've heard shorter hatch times, around 55-60 days, particularly with this incubation method, so maybe I'll get lucky...If they hatch before I leave the sitter will be able to handle them no prob, but I really don't want to have to try re-locating the incubator to her place...Sigh.

All of my womas pip around 53-55 days. I use the same method to hatch mine. I keep my temps at 86-88 This year 32 eggs and 31 baby womas.

That's good to hear. 55 days would give me plenty of time to get the little guys set up and stable before I take off. When do yours usually take their first meal?

'Grats on 31 hatches - how many cluches was that, two or three?

I just had 12 out of 12 hatch in 60 days. Temps were 89 with a minor 8 hr spike of 101 that was my fault.
