Now that I have good pictures...

stygiansguitars Jun 13, 2008 11:49 PM

and haven't posted on here in like a year, here are some pics of my CalKing. He's a little over 2 years old, these pictures are from a few months ago.

These ones are a little older. I think he was getting ready to shed so there's water marks all over the glass from where I sprayed mist.

does anyone know of any websites where I could get a good snake shirt? One that's not an iron on...

Neat pics of him climbing. People think of Kings, @ least Cals as being fossorial and non-climbers. I've had a couple of CalKings that have escaped (@ different times) and somehow managed to CLIMB from the floor up onto the kitchen sink where they gave themselves away by knocking over dish soap or slithering loudly through a package of garlic bulbs. This is the garlic boy.

When I first got him, he would try to climb up the side of the glass and he'd get going for a while, then he would start swaying and fall over, haha. Now he has no problem going straight up the glass and hangs out on the thermostat/hygrometer at the top and does like a figure 8 around them.

if you try distilled or R/O water in your sprayer it may not leave spots on the glass, but do not offer this water in a bowl because of its lack of minerals and nutrients...Chris

I've heard scientific reports of horrible things with reptiles only being given distilled water in their bowls as you mentioned. It seems to actually swell the tissue cell walls and weakens them severely, giving the snake's a very obese appearance. Additionally, I think many have also died due to the water having absolutely NO mineral value whatsoever that is so crutial to the animal's cell functions. Definitely NOT a good thing!.....I'm sure distilled water probably sounds like a good "pure" thing to some folks to give to their reptiles,...but this is DEFINITELY not the case.

I'm glad you mentioned that here, as it might actually help save a few snake's lives in the future from owners that are unaware of this.

yeah, I dont give him distilled water, as you can tell, but thats a good idea for spraying the cage, cause those watermarks are pretty hard to get rid of.

DMong Jun 14, 2008 06:02 PM

Yes, I agree that distilled water would work fantastic for not leaving mineral stains along the glass. Even if the snake sipped some off the glass, ...no harm done at all, because the vast majority of the water it gets is the "good stuff" from the bowl..........it would just be like he took a couple sips of "nothing"..LOL!

R/O = Reverse osmosis = a pressure pump through thin membrane filter that only allows H2O to pass "according to me"..Peace C

very good, thank you. I see it offered for sale as R/O water at a local pet shop but didn't know what it ("R/O" was.
