Herpstat II -- And Tstat Q's-

OKReptileRescue Jun 14, 2008 01:30 AM

I've been looking for new tstats, the ones I have are cheap and making me mad---

I have seen the herpstat- II at GLK Herps for 319 $$$ -- it has 4 outputs- so its like 4 tstats @ 80 $ each-- not a bad price. Is there anyone thats using/used this before-- compliments, complaints, comments.... thanks

I also see that the tstats come with power strips that can plug in 6 different cords-- does that mean you're able to use ONE tstat to run 6 independant strips of flexwatt with only ONE temp. probe? -- What if one strip fails and its not the strip that the probe is on... ?!
The Tstat's I'm looking at with the power strips are Johnson Controls if that makes a difference...

Do I need a probe for each strip of flexwatt, and there for basically a Tstat per strip of flexwatt? Seems like a lot... but it seems safer... but... ?

Gak! I'm so confused...
Any help would be great!

Beth

Usually it's one probe per rack or stack of cages. Place the probe in the mid level cage and dial in your temperature. Towards the bottom will be cooler, higher will be warmer. Thats why a temp. gun is needed to check your temperatures how ever often you want to check them. You could also do it by cage rows, where one probe controls the bottom stack, another controls the next level up, and so on. If you did on probe per heating element, you be spending thousands on either seperate thermostats, or one unit that does dual zones. Which as far as I know, aren't marketed too much for Residential applications.

I use these for all my Chondro cages they are GREAT. I have radiant heat panels in each cage. With the pro model each cage can be controlled individually. All you do is plug the thermostat into the wall and on the back of thermo there are four outlets to plug in the heat sources and probes into. It comes with the 4 probes and ready to go. You can set each one to the temp you want!

There a great product and a good price for what you get!

I think you're mistaken; the Herpstat II, like it's name implies, only has two probes and outlets for use and costs around $220. The Herpstat Pro has four probes and outlets and runs $320.

On a personal note, I prelaced ALL of my Helix's with Herpstats over a year ago and it was the smartest thing I ever did herp-related. The two are not comparable in price or features.

We've completely changed over to Herpstats! The Pro model controls 4 seperate stacks and is extremely easy to set. I just order them direct from Spyderrobotics. They were great to work with.

Beth,

The post above is correct the Herpstat II is a two output unit that retails for $219 and the Herpstat Pro is a four output unit that retails for $319. In both devices each of the outputs are controlled independently with their own probes, temperature selections, and night drop options. They do also have an optional USB cable and software that allows you to hook the thermostat to a pc and view your temps online and get e-mail or text message alerts if there is a problem.
