I've been looking into buying one of these. I know that analog thermometers arent very accurate, but I'm starting to wonder how accurate our temps are with the digital thermometers.
The problem I'm seeing is with the probe. It all depends on how centered the light is on the probe to how many degrees the thermometer is off. I've noticed that if you move your dome less than an inch either way can result in as much as 5 degrees.
So it all depends on where your beardie is basking compared to the center of the bulb how hot the temperature is.
If I'm correct in my thinking, then beardies need belly warmth to properly digest their food and with the overhead heat being so intense they may not sit in the proper place.
Also, the wattage of a lightbulb isn't always the best indication of the intensity of light. For example a 150 watt flood bulb has a light output of 1350 lumens while a 100 watt clear incandescent has a light output of 1750 lumens. So just lowering the wattage of a bulb won't drop your temperature. It could actually increase it, depending on the style of bulb you choose. Just something to consider when trying to find the proper temperature for the basking spot.
