Cumingi's second clutch

Jody P. Sep 01, 2003 05:50 PM

My female cumingi has laid yet another clutch of egg's this time 5. She just laid them on sat. night. These are all infertile again of course seeing she hasn't been in with a male. Her last clutch was laid in Jan.

My female croc. monitor has been down all morning so maybe she is next to lay.

And also learn what an infertile egg looks like. Those are perfect examples of infertile eggs.

I hope you do not get to see that a lot. F

I was having a senior moment. Please forgive me.

I will pay close attention to the eggs though. I am glad you pointed that out. Is there something to look for other than the fact they seem enlongated & dented? I can't make much out about the color but they don't seem very white.

Thanks Frank.

Too funny looks like I missed razing you about not reading my post LOL.

But anyways as Frank Pointed out they are easy to tell they are infertile from the look of them long, cigar shaped, off white with yellowish coloring. Plus they feel infertile by the touch. Oh and not to mention the no male being with her ordeal LOL.

Her first clutch in Jan. was not like this but was also infertile. They were not dimpled and were round in the center. But the ends were poorly developed and funny looking, they were also yellowish in color.

Now that I have a male in with her hopefully with any luck the next time she lays they will be good egg's. She is a good girl and is doing her job quite well.

I was reading faster than I could think. I was also so excited that your Cumingis laid eggs I didn't catch the *in* in infertile. LOL!!

Thanks for the description, hopefully I will be getting some eggs in the next year or so and I can see the difference.

Laugh on, and poke fun where you can. This forum is entirely too serious.

Your waters should be plenty big enough by now for egg's to be laid??

How are those little Brn's doing? Not so little anymore?

Gene Sep 04, 2003 07:26 AM

Hey Jody,

Yeah, I think the waters are plenty big. Unfortunately I don't do a lot of measuring and weighing unless there is something wrong but I would guess the female is at if not over 4 feet by now. Of course Yoshi is pletny big. I planning on putting them togeather soon.

The BRNs are pretty good sized too. I really can't hazard a guess because I rarely see them. I pretty much leave them to their own most of the time. I feed & clean but don't force handling on them if I don't have to. Some times it's cool becuase they will come see what I am doing and I touch or interact then but it's pretty much on their terms.

I really suck when it comes to sexing anything but waters and I am not even that good in that department.

I do have a little exciting news though. My ackies are at it all the time. I just have to watch & observe. Hopefully I will come across some eggs pretty soon.

Later, Gene

How big is 'good sized' , for the BRNs, may I ask?
And how old are yours? Any colors showing on them, besides the black and gray? I keep hearing stuff about different colors in rudis, and I'm way curious about it. The hatchling I had had, developed rust color flecking on her neck.
My preference is for a solid black one, that would be cool. The lone male I have is pretty dark, no colors. He's handsome.
That's exciting about your acks! Keep us posted!
Cheers, D.

anyone that tells you they have an easy time sexing monitors is crazy. It is not easy not even when you have alot of them to look at like I do it is however a little easier but not easy.

Good luck with those ackies, I just finally got my lone male paired up I think. LOL for the life of me I cannot sex these things. I was always told females don't have spurs. Now seems they can have spurs or do have spurs but they are smaller then the males. I have one with real big spurs and bulges so I assumed it a male. The two new ones are bigger then mine and have smaller spurs but have a big head and neck and are bulky making me think males.
They are together so I guess I will find out one way or the other.

I can't wait to get my male BRN paired up he doesn't have much color like the blues, or turqoise ones I have seen. He is a solid charcoal grey. They are awesome monitors and fun to work with.
