a bit perplexed (feeding topic)

steno Jun 15, 2008 11:20 AM

Yesterday I went and visit a friend of mine that keep some Cuban rock iguanas, very nice specimens, healthy and robust looking. He told me that once, every 10 days, he fed them all with biscuits the same he usually use for his breakfast (?) and some 1 week old bread too. He told me that this feeding advice was given him by some keepers of the Prague Zoo where that kind of Cyclura is bred since years. What do you think about it? Consider that I feed my rhinos with ONLY wild veggies, a bit of fruits once a week and no animal proteins, just trying to follow at the best the guidelines for those iguanas.
Cheers
Stef

i feed mine bread once in a while and pasta and rice, they go nuts for it but bulk of the diet is dark leafy greens and mazurie tortoise chow.

Although not a natural food item, a little bread every ten days will not hurt your iguana. Tourist who visit islands where these iguanas live feed them way worse stuff more frequently. Just back off on the twinkies and fruit pies.
In other words, King Ding Dong, Twinkie the Kid, Happy Ho Ho, and Fruit Pie the Magician are NOT friends of your iguana.

Thanks a lot for your infos fellows but, although some bread or cooked rice will not hurt my Cycluras, do you recognize are NOT natural foods, or they replace some other bread-like-foods (farinaceous)?
Thanks and cheers

I give potato bread as a treat to my Cyclura and Albino Green Iguanas every once in a while. It doesn't hurt them and they sure like it....TC
