So great to see all those healthy ratsnakes producing the next generation of snakes for the hobby. It's encouraging to know the familiar names are keeping the good breeding lines going.

Best regards
John

Hi John
Very few people keep on having/breeding the same animals for generations. Normally they stop after 1 generation and starts up with something new. Very often the line disappear after few years, and impossible to get again. Some lines of my snakes I have had since the beginning of the eighties, and my Greek line of situla can be detected back as far as to the animals of Harry Sigg in (i think it was) 1974.
I had to sell many many interesting ratsnakes back in 1990 bacause my girlfriend left me, and I was standing with no money, no house and a disturbed mind. When I got a hold of myself, I tried to get some of the lines back. Nope all gone, disappeared, dead
So I learned my lesson. If the animals really means anything to you, keep on having them, even if you cannot find the time to breed. Lay low but KEEP the animals and await better times.

This mornings situla "Kerkyra" clutch

It's nice to see snakes I don't normally see laying ang such nice ones as those. Keep these coming. I look foward to your great pics.

Those are some outstanding animals!,...and that bright neon orange face on the striped situla is really something.

Too bad you don't have more accurate locality data on those animals!.......................KIDDING OF COURSE!..

Hi Doug
Actually you are not kidding That is a serious issue. Biologists always makes new species/subspecies out of common known things. That is why it is so important to know, from where your animals originate, and also to keep your lines as "clean" as possible. Even Yugoslavia don`t excist as a country no more, I cannot rename them. Back there in 79-81, when I got them, the animals was caught within a large range, that could be Croatia, Serbia or something else. The animals was send from dealers, but the real origin is unknown.
My Greek animals are mainly from Peleponnes, BUT I had problems in the 6-7 generation and neded foreign gens to keep them. Gen depression started and without new gens, the animals would die out. I could have stopped with these, but since they are the absolute most beautiful of all, I got some animals from a population near bye in stead. They are still Greek, but not locality form from Peleponnes.
My Kazahstan dione are something special. If you ever see the eggs, you would newer believe it. They are not eggs like we know. They are balloons. Watery filled balloons. No shell what so ever. Maybe one day they will be determined to be a new species / subspecies. So that line should be kept absolutely free of foreign gens for future examination.

Hi,

I was wondering how your hohenackeri's doing? Do you breed them regulary? And what about your conspicillatus (2 males, yes?) and prasina?

Best regards,
Gidi

Jun 16, 2008 12:38 PM

Hi Gidi
You are stepping on my bad toas I lost my last hohenackeri female, without any reason. Conspicillata I only have males and prasina didn`t like our cold Autum and ovolated far to soon, so no eggs there.
Ha I am in no hurry. More than 100 snake eggs in the incubator and more lizard and turtle eggs. Far far to many snakes to care for, especially because they are so hard to sell.
I will try on Breeders-Expo, Hobro and Sakeday, but don`t recon to sell much.
Will enlarge my cologny with the best

Hi Sue
I am really hoping, that you are the one, I talked to 2 maybe 3 years ago on Snakeday. I lost your e-mail back then and could not write to you.
There are not 8 but 18 fertile eggs from the Kazahstan dione
Finally maneged to breed them again, which I am very happy about.
I am still not sure about Snakeday. Work isn`t so willing to give me the time off. I will attend massivly on Breeders Expo Europe 30 Aug in Rheda though.

Best wishes
