How to ship baby beardies?

teaspoon Jun 15, 2008 02:15 PM

My ten little baby beardies are six inches long, so I'm trying to find them new homes now, with no luck. I'd keep every one of them if I had the time, space, and money, but I don't. I'd like to advertise on kingsnake, but I don't think I'd get much bussiness if I said, " I don't ship, so you have to live in northern Virginia" I'd like to learn how to ship reptiles, I'm just worried about it. Can anybody explain how to do it?

Shipping is due typically by air by some airlines, like Delta. Couriers may not permit shipment of live reptiles, you will have to ask them what their policies are.

Most definitely want any live animals properly packaged too. Doing a google search on 'shipping reptiles' will bring you all kinds of guides.

Here is one site to look at.

most people ship using UPS or DHL or FEDEX. i use UPS mostly, i hate DHL. next day air shipping. put dragon into a plastic container with holes drilled in the sided and lid for air. i use styrofoam lined shipping boxes. do not ship if temps are above 85 degrees. if its hot, use cold packs in the shipping box. if its cold use heat packs. mark the box "live harmless reptile" and make sure its marked fragile. drop your boxed dragon off at UPS store around 4-5pm, in time for the last pickup of the day. ship it next day by 8am or 10:30am. itll usually cost around 35-60 dollars depending on location. sometimes more. i only ship to 48 states.

im in northern va as well, what do you have?

I've received shipped beardies but much prefer to pick them up if possible. I'd advertise and tell people where you are and maybe you'll find someone local to buy some or all. You could also try advertising on craigslist.org in the pet section of your local area.

If your interested in one, the babies are adorable and gorgeous and perfect . I have no idea what blood line, the parents came from a pet store(a good pet store). The mother is patternless yellow and dad is bright yellow/orange patterned with pretty blue bars on his sides. I have a website, which dosn't have pictures yet, but hopefully will in the next couple days.
