My bearded Dragon is constipated please help?

Doofy1577 Sep 01, 2003 06:33 PM

I noticed today that my Bearded dragon was trying to go potty and all that came out was the white substance. After thinking about it my girlfriend and I have not seen him poop normally (being white and black in coloration)in over a week. We have decide to call the vet tomorrow and schedule an appointment right away. I just wanted to ask on here and see if any one thaught maybe in fact he has impacted bouls. For info we have been feeding him crickets (smaller then the space between his eyes) and last week we left for the week end and we had our house sitter feed him a combination of corn and carrots. But normally we feed him crickets and only crickets

How old is the dragon? Try giving it a warm bath, that may help. Also, you should be feeding it greens daily along with the crickets.

corn and carrots is not a good diet for a dragon, dark leafy greens are the way to go, carrots can be offered sparingly once weekly or so, things like collard greens, escarole, endive, raddichio, dandelion and the like should make up daily salads. Is he eating crickets well for you? what are your temps, cool and basking temps? how old is he? what substrate do you have him on?

Hi there,
I just got over the same problem and the advice given to me really worked. Give your beardie a warm bath daily for about 15 minutes. I put a washcloth in the bottom of the 'tub' so that she has something to grip her toes into. While in the tub massage her belly gently towards her vent. Mine either goes in the water or shortly after she gets out of the bath. I was also advised to provide extra veggies until she got regular again. For the last couple of days I start with veggies in the morning (she loves kale) and give her the crickets later in the day (so she doesn't fill up on the crickets). Hope this helps,
maggie.

OK to asnwer your ?'s about the set up and temps. Sorry that I did not list them before but my girlfreidn was sitting next to me naging me to hurry up. My bearded dragon is about a year old, maybe a alittle older, we keep him in a substrate of sand and his basking temps are 110 with his warm side being high 80's and at night high 70's. The size of the tank is a 55 gallon.

He actually just went to the bathroom today which is a BIG weight off my chest. I used to have a running water fall in his tank but took that out and put a deep water dish in there and it seemed as soon as I put that in there we went over there and pooped in the water. The crap was huge also.

Also he does eat crickets regulary from my hand but he has been eating wierd in the sence of teh qauntity. one week he will eat 10 plus crickets every morning and then the past two days he would only eat 3 or not even that much. My girlfriend and I decided that we are going to try and keep him on a vegtable diet with only feeding him crickets once a week which is when we will dust them as we feed them to him.

Now the biggest problem I have with him is this. HE does not like to eat vegtables. TODAY and ONLY TODAY was the very first I have ever seen him chomp down on a vegtable and it was a think peice of Cucumber and he seemed to really like that. I actually got him to eat a flew peices of green beans as well.
What vegtables do you people find that they most like to eat, we have tried brocoli, green beans, corrats, corn, pothos leaves, dandolions. and some others that I cannot spell but it seemed that he was not interested at all when I placed it in front of him. is there a good way to get him to eat? should I just stop feeding crickets so he looks for other sources of food like vegtables?

Thansk everyone for your help and answers so far. They are deeply apprecaited

My bearded dragon is about a year old, maybe a alittle older, we keep him in a substrate of sand and his basking temps are 110 with his warm side being high 80's and at night high 70's. The size of the tank is a 55 gallon.
