scarlet update

54podge Jun 15, 2008 10:10 PM

two weeks ago, I posted how she had finally taken a pink. Unfortunately, 2 day later she chucked it up, and I was back at square one. one week later I introduced a couple of pinks for round 2, but she was not interested.

A week later I tried again, and she took not just one, but both pinks (large and small) After chatting with a few guys on the KRE website (kentucky reptile expo), it felt as if I actually had the ambient temps too high. I made some adjustments and lowered the ambient to about 77 degrees, and we have now been digesting for 36 hours without regurge.

I can honestly say that w/o the help of you folks (you know who you are) and my friends at the KRE, that my little Scarlet might be facing some serious issues. For now, she seems happy as a pig in slop. Thanks!!!!!

Good to hear that you may have found success with your scarlet..
Hopefully she will hold this meal and you will be back on track from here on out..

If she does lose another meal i would stick to one pink for the next meal or two just to make sure all is well..

Good luck and thanks for keeping us posted!

I know, I know. I only put two in there because one pink was so small I wasn't sure it would be active enough to evoke a feeding response. the other was average size but more active..... anyway, I am glad she kept both down, and will probably drop one less than average sized pink in there from now on

I'm glad the snake seems to be doing okay now,....an ambient temp of about 75-77, and warm side of 81-83 is a really good scenario to shoot for with them if at all possible.

In very small containers(plastic shoeboxes, etc...), that are optimum for housing SK's in, it can be very dificult to have much of a temp gradient. So if this doesnt seem real possible for you, just keep the whole thing about 80-82, and that will do fine too.

hope the snake continues to do well for you, good luck!
