Dade County ANTI-Brooks WC 2007

foxturtle Jun 15, 2008 10:57 PM

A friend of mine found this king on a canal in western Dade County. This particular canal was supposed to have nice looking kings with very deep yellow coloration. His reaction to seeing this was "you've got to be kidding me..."

He had no hesitation giving me this snake... he probably would have been content with throwing it into the canal.

This snake is so dark and colorless it almost looks axanthic.

Did someone lose their holbrooki?? Lol, but it's not all THAT bad. A day out in the field at the very least -- beter than a good day at work I always say.

Yeah,...it's pretty funny sometimes in regards to people's expectation of what they "should" find in the "enchanted land" of brooksi.

In my experience living in southern Florida since I was a small kid, it's just as "Upscale" has said before,....just because the high yellow, or very pale animals do as a general rule "come" from that area, it CERTAINLY doesn't mean that most of the floridana indigenous to that general area look ultra spectacular, and you'll snag one or more of these "gems" on every herp outing.

As a matter of fact, the really killer ones are simply sprinkled around here and there amongst the more "average Joe" floridana, just like many snakes within lots of other types of clutches we breeders produce.

In any case, I guess if high yellow brooksi were under every piece of debris along those canals, they certainly wouldn't be as coveted, or revered as they are today in the hobby,...that's for certain!..

BTW,..I'd own that animal any day of the week!,..nice photography too!, ~Doug

What? Axanthics are one of the most colorful morphs there is....at least in my opinion. I will agree that animal is pretty drab.
