Spilotes Question

KenC Jun 15, 2008 11:23 PM

I have a pair of w/c spilotes I recieved last year and have a question. Both snakes went off feed for about three months in the winter and now are eating normally again. I keep there cages on a thermostat and there day/night light bulb on a timer so everything is the same all year round. They both are also free of parasites(vet checked). Just wondering if this is normal for this species. Will post some pics later. They just ate today and I do not want to disturb them.

Hi Ken. I have only been keeping Spilotes for about two years now, but mine have never gone off feed, unless they were in shed. I have 1.1 wc adults in the 8-9' range and 1.2 cb juvies (raised from very young babies to current size of 3.5-5'). I know my imported adults are much more "touchy" about feeding and have, on occasion, regurged if disturbed shortly after feeding, but like I said, unless they're in shed, never refuse a meal. I would not worry too much as long as your pair are feeding normally again.

Thanks for the reply. I did not think this was normal for spilotes. I always here of them being garbage disposals. I couldn't get much advice from my vet except clean fecal samples. But I was not worried much since they were not losing weight.
