cochran Jun 16, 2008 05:00 PM

Well,I've been trying to set up an account with fedex but,I keep running into stumps. After going thru all the info crap, when I try to finalize my account info I get this thing that says my address is invalid! There is nothing there to tell ya what to do next.I think I'm gonna sell out and go back to having "pets" this is really ridiculus! poor guy...I can feel your pain, but really, with shipping costing 75 plus anymore for guys like me in the sticks... It just doesn't pay to get stuff shipped in anymore! And think of all the shipping hassles you won't have? I think shows will still be a good place to go sell stuff. And at the end of the show there are people looking to buy the rest of your stuff wholesale if you really need to dump em. Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I seem to recall someone else having a similar problem...

I have a FedEx account but technically am not certified.
I started the process with one representative, and apparently he left and I haven't had my call returned yet.

I should try again - it has been a few months. Thanks for reminding me.

I admit - I have shipped a few w/o the certification, which I guess is technically a lacy act violation.

This thread reminded me to get that taken care of, so thank you.

Shipping to Colorado for me was about $40 - to New Jersey, if I remember it was close to $70. I may have to reduce prices for east coast customers just to compensate for the shipping (it's a hobby for me, not a business)

I decided my old sig was too big.

I had a friend who was trying to get fedex certified and she had a lot of trouble too. She just kept calling them and annoying them until someone helped her figure out what she needed to do. Apparently her person also left half way through the process, left the country in fact. Craziness. How long does a certification last? Does it need to be renewed?

be SURE you keep copies of all of the paperwork they send you! Several people have posted in various forums about FedEx having no record of their approval after a year or more of using FedEx. If the shipper didn't have their own copies to prove it, they would have had to go through the whole thing again! I have had at least 4 different reps in the past 3 years, so don't count on a good rep being able to help you. They may be gone when you need them.

A lot of FedEx employees have no idea this option exists, or what the details of the contract entail. I was questioned once, after using FedEx for more than a year. They suddenly noticed I was shipping reptiles after that long (even though I do write the contents on the package, but as unobtrusively as possible). They told me to take everything home and wanted to deny me service because I wasn't listed in their computer as a reptile shipper (at least they did know that there was such a thing as an approved reptile shipper though). Luckily, I had a copy of my contract with me, so they were forced to accept my shipment. Never assume anything when it comes to dealing with big companies!

I used DHL exclusively for many years (even back when it was still Airborne Express). Believe it or not, they were even more disorganized than FedEx!

I'm a courier for fedex and there policy is not to ship live animals unless you get certification....like someone said just keep calling them...but I used to work for DHL and I would not recomend them the do not follow laws or anything....
Good Luck
