electricity question???

hogsandpythons Jun 16, 2008 09:45 PM

I'm sure this was a question on some test I took in high school, but ...

If I am plugging in 20 feet of heat tape, does it take more, less, or about the same amount of power to wire them as (5) 4' strips or (1) 20' strip.

I'd prefer to have a separate plug-in and strip per shelf since my shelving needs vary and I built adjustable shelves, but I don't want to use insane amounts of electricity either.

If this is an easy one for you, PLEASE share the answer

Thanks!
Adam

So long as we are talking equal Watts per foot than Yes its safe to say they will be close but not equal.

Do to the additional points of contact and additional length of feeder wire. You will see increased voltage drop.

So long as you aren't close to exceeding the circuit's current limit you won't see a problem.
