I found this in a old house being remodeled in the North Texas area just south of Ft. Worth. It was about 5 feet long. This shot was when i released near another abandond farm house.

Technically it is the same species as the black rat (depending whose systematics you follow), but it is the Texas subspecies. The common name is Texas Ratsnake. They are a very common snake here in the eastern 2/3 of the state. They are probably the most common "big" snake found in residential areas and around human habitation in most of Texas.
