Spotted Turtle Bust

najachris Jun 17, 2008 05:30 PM

I recently heard that a couple of individuals were busted in North Carolina with over 200 wild caught Spotted Turtles. I also heard that not much later the same people were caught coming out of W. Virginia with a load of wild caught Wood Turtles. Don't know if the facts are correct but that's what I was told. Appreciate any follow-up.

want to mention names but there was one well known Fl. dealer and 2 other proffessional collecters that got caught with over 200 ass. turtles including Spotted Turtles in N. Carolina. The info that I have is that they were arrested and the turtles released. As far as I know they have bonded out and are awaiting trial. It is my understanding no Wood Turtles were involved......TC

Why would F&G release turtles unless the localities were known? THAT doesn't sound right.

The info I have is they were followed for several days before being arrested and the turtles were given to a well known turtle researcher in N. Carolina for release. I know all the names but I'm not sure its proper to post them....TC
