HELP!!Uline Cage Liner

littleleeper23 Jun 18, 2008 02:22 AM

Hey Yall, Looking for opinions on best paper substrates. LOST ALL of my newspaper in the flood. ALL OF MY CAGING TOO!!!!!!!!! Looking at Uline I see a few different potentials. -Unprinted newspaper, -Bogus Paper 100% recycled, Indented craft paper, corrugated wrap. I would like to have opinions. I think the newsprint although HANDY and free most of the time. The fact that the ROLL type I would need to double or triple fold it or more to make it useable. ANY help or experience with any of these would be greatly appreciated. I AM LEANING TOWARDS THE CORRUGATED CRAFT PAPER looks rougher (easier to shed) and more absorptive. Also useable in a single layer???? Thanks and God Bless, Lee Van Hyfte SUBAQUATIC IOWA!!

I only use paper towels in my cages. Newspaper I find is not absorbent anywhere near as paper towel and it is messy due the ink. Bought a snake one time who was kept on newsprint..the sweater box it came with was filthy with newspaper ink...couldn't touch it without getting it on my hands etc....so definitely don't recommend any printed newspaper as a substrate.

Unprinted newsprint paper (no ink on it, just a greyish sheet of paper) would not have the ink problems...

I have used parcel brown paper before, though not with snakes. I use it as a 'liner' for my rodent cages, as well as their bedding (aspen or pine, it varies).

All the other paper types you mentioned...the thicker corrugated may be more absorbent..but those that are dyed...the dye itself may be a problem (though I can't say for certain...may not bother snakes at all, may stain them if the paper gets wet and the snake crawls over it), but probably more expensive then good old fashion plain paper towel.
