Is it toxic to them? Just checkin out different substrates.
from what I understand the sharp edges will rip their little insides apart. remember they taste/eat everything that is in their cage.

Just found that out. In addition to reports of grain mites which are not a problem with snakes, but who knows with Beardies. Where is the best place to get washed childrens playsand?
When I used to use sand I used what they sold at Home Depot. It was washed childrens play sand and it had a green and orange label on the bag. I guess any store like that would sell it Lowes or some hardware stores.

I'm wondering if walnut shell has gotten a bad rap because people tried using the same stuff that reloaders use to polish brass cases... That stuff is crushed, has a "grain size" of anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4 inch, and is as sharp as glass. Certainly not to be used for ANY animal's bedding or substrate.
I've used the ESU lizard litter, however, without any ill effects. It's small-grained ( The largest grains seem to be under 1/16 of an inch ), fairly smooth, and hasn't been prone to mold or mildew. And as far as I know, walnut shell is not prone to swelling, like wood chips are.
The worst thing about it, that I've seen, is that it floats in water dishes, and sticks to the lizards after they've been misted. But even play sand does that.
Not saying it's good stuff, but I'm not so sure it's as evil as it's being made out to be.
Can anybody point me to a site that has any "horror stories" about it?
