I boiled some water put it in a bucket with the rat in the bag left it there for awhile and, the rat was warm so I put it in and moved it and she hit it and ate it. We are on are way now

That's great, I'm glad it worked for you. But I wouldn't advise using boiling water. I only ever use very hot tap water, so about 180 degrees or so. If you use boiling water (212 fahrenheit) you may run the risk of literally cooking the food item.
