Chocolate Ball python question

Kevin Earley Jun 18, 2008 07:30 PM

Pardon my ignorance but could some one explain the differences between the "chocolate" ball python and say a Black pastel, I haven't found alot about them on the net. I have only seen a couple of pictures of a "chocolate" as of recently and they look similar to a black pastel. I realize that their super form is different hence different mutation but it seems from the couple of pictures in the classifieds that it is a subtle difference unless I am really missing something.

Any input would be appreciated.

Chocolates are much more subtle than a Black Pastel. Many people I think have them in their collection of captive hatched animals and don't even know. If you hasd a Black Pastel within a collection -- one would KNOW!

Most of my breeder females are captive hatched and I have 3 that I am "looking funny" at and am putting males with them as if they were Chocolates or somethng similar --just in case...

This male breeding my Ghost ,,, not a Chocolate.

Here is a pic of a chocolate male we have, he is from the Bells line. They are a very subtle morph, and look similar to a dark morph with a more chocolate color, hence the name.

They have a lot of potential and should make some cool things. For what they are, they are priced very reasonably, if you shop around.

A lot different than a black pastel, I will post a pic of a black pastel to compare the 2. I find it easier when looking at 2 animals to have the same type of pic... aka same back ground, photographer, etc.

Hope this helps.

Here is a pic of a Screamer Ian G line Black pastel that Bill (Kinderman) produced on the same background, lighting, and my crappy photography skills for comparison.

I don't believe any one has done much with the chocolate other than the super chocolate pins ( camo ball).Should be room for a lot of interesting combo's with them.
