Weird shed

Thomas S. May 23, 2003 01:15 PM

My female BCI started her shed sometime this morning before 1:30am. She shed the first 6" or so and still hasn't finished the rest. She is all coiled up wierd, kind of like the heat conservation coil that Ronne describes for gravid females. I've had her with a male but she hasn't appeared gravid so far. Also, I fed her yesterday afternoon. Has anyone ever seen this before?

me myself i have not seen that. usually gravid females do not shed that often in my observations. it is probably due to low humity levels. the first thing i would do is a good soak in warmish water for an hour or so, then check to see how the skin is going to come off. if it is still a little stuck on i would replace the water and resoak again for an hour or so. you do not want the skin to dryout on the snake it makes it too hard to get off and can lead to other problems down the road. dont force it, soak it. i hope this is a help to you.

Thanks for the info. I don't think she was gravid before, she may be gravid now and the may be the POS. She has never had a problem shedding in the 9 years I've had her. I will try your suggestion and soak her.
