Life is about Choices!!!!!

PGlazenerCooney Jun 19, 2008 01:44 AM

Life is about choices being made each day of our lives. Often times the thing that makes the difference in a person making right choices over wrong is encouragement one receives from others. I was reminded of this yesterday as I witnessed a presentation at our Public Library on herps, mainly Corns, made by a young man who will be entering the seventh grade in August. With poise well beyond his years he mesmerized his audience of children, Parents, and other Adults(about 40 ) with his animals (all in A-1 shape) and with top notch Info. The highlight, of course, was letting the audience handle a few of his Corns. This young man comes from a family where his older brother has not made good choices. His Mom hopes that his interest in Herps will keep him from making the same bad choices. The thing that I celebrate is the encouragement he has received from Rob and Louise Stevens of Bayou Reptiles. They have taken time to deal with his calls in a gracious manner and have encouraged him in all that he does. He consistently says Rob says this and Louise says that!!! What a gift those two have given this young man!!!! Next week he will be at Zoo Camp at the Fort Worth Zoo. Don't you know that those keepers there will hear all about Rob and Louise and their excellent advice!!! Thanks Rob and Louise--you have gone a long way to save a life!!!!!

Shalom,

Yes thank you for sharing. Sometimes I don't think we know what an effect we have on our younger generation. I could never beleave someone would look up to me but every time I get to telling a snake story at my local pet store there is sure to be a child with the blank stare of amazement on his face the whole time.

Rob and Louise have made themselves a permanent fixture in this hobby. Anybody can make great looking snakes, but it's the genuine care and service they practice that makes so many satisfied customers. Did I mention "they sure can cook"? lol. Some of the best snakes I own came from Bayou Reptiles. I cannot say enough about my good friends in Louisiana.

been great to deal with at the shows. Wonderful animals, wonderful personalities, and just good people. Some of my favorite "keepers" came from them. I am not surprised to hear of their mentorship with the next generation. Guess I have to get over to see them, and sample that cooking Don is talking about!

That story is truely what this hobby is about.. I cannot possibly enjoy what I have, if I can't give it away.. I wish I had that chance when I was the young mans age, but of course my parents did not want anything to do with reptiles..

Great job Rob and Louise..

Regards.. Tim of T and J

What a great message. I wish things like this could get into the mainstream instead of most of the garbage that makes it. It goes to show some of the wonderful people in this hobby. There are so many kids out there with parents that could care less about where their kids are at or what they are doing. It is so refreshing to hear a story like this. Thank you Pat! Take care my friend and talk to you soon.
