That one certainly is "unique". Very nice.

Thanx for posting pics, this is bound to cause a stir!
How's he adapting to captivity and are you planning a breeding group around that male?
Looks nice and chunky, very healthy looking snake.

Politics' is made up of two words, 'poli,' which is Greek for 'many,' and 'tics,' which are blood-sucking insects.- Gore Vidal
Well, he's been in my possession for roughly two years now, and he seems to be very, very contented with his life here.
Very calm and easily handled as Scarlets go, and eats live pinks like they're candy.
As for breeding, I've probably not put as much effort into this project as it warrants. Without delving into the personal reasons and rationales, this season probably isn't going to happen...
However, I'm bound and determined to make a real go of it next year, and if all goes to plan, he should have a veritable harem formed 'round him.
Wonderful animal in every sense of the word, with quite a unique personality.
Trevor
I'll say it again you need to hook up with Chris to ensure that guy gets bred next year. PLEASE don't run the risk of loosing that animal without the opertunity to perpetuate its unique genotype. I speak from experience. My hypo SK got loose and went missing. I was INCREDIBLY fortunate that my wife found it in the garden a year later!
I agree Tony,.....as many years that they have been known to exist here and there, with NOTHING ever happening as far as any production, that would be an absolute crying shame for that awesome animal not sire his unique genetics into the hobby.
What a healthy, beautiful animal!

Agreed.
Every time I stop to consider this project, that's my one fear - that some unfortunate turn of events will turn this animal of mine into a mere footnote.
Yet another 'there used to be this guy...' story.
Arrangements are already being made for next season.
Trevor
Thats just insane man.Good luck with that project.
L8r Shannon
Yeah!,......as Jeff mentioned, that animal will raise a few eyebrows here for SURE!...it had me hoping for a photo even before I clicked on your post.
Yes, that animal is a sweet picture of health in every way, and it sounds like he's doing fantastic in your care,...CONGRATULATIONS!....I really mean that too.
I've only heard of maybe two, and actually saw one in person back in 1996, and I was thinking of buying a couple hets that were for sale back then. It seems that by now there might have been a few to surface for sale in the hobby, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've heard from a few people that the folks that had them, either couldn't get them to breed, and/or I think at least one might have died as well.
That is one special little animal you have there, and I'm a bit envious as well of that highly revered little dude ..LOL!, as I've always loved those little guys.
BTW,....how the HECK did you come across that awesome creature?
best of luck with the breeding projects in the future!,.....you no doubt have a fan club here for that snake.
Please post more pics whenever possible!...
best regards, ~Doug

Very nice snake!!! I'm probably a 'shoe in' in the response category. Do you happen to have an exact county locale? Looks ridiculously healthy as well... glad he's being so well taken care of...
More pics please!
Chris
Sincerest thanks to everyone for the kind words!
I'll take additional pics sometime soon, for he was nearing shed in the image I've provided. Just a matter of my taking the time...
Believe it or not, his colors are even brighter post-shed. He almost glows.
No locale info other than 'Southern Florida'. I obtained him from a long-time field collector who (understandably) was reluctant to reveal where this little fellow was discovered.
Again, he's got a really neat personality. Very alert and inquisitive.
Trevor
Just when I was getting tired of albinos. That just kicks ass. The very best of luck to you on that, and yeah.....more pics please.
Jerry Kruse
Hey Jerry,
Just a heads up.
All six Zonata eggs are looking good!
Man, I can't wait to see those little black noses
poking out!

I'm usually not into morphs, but that thing is smokin'!
If that bad boy was in my hands, I would do two different things with him. 1) Breed him into a locale specific project, emphasizing the tri-color look. 2) Breed him into a Northern bloodline, emphasizing a bi-color SK. It would also be kinda neet to see an albino white belly SK. It's definitely a plus that it's a male. Many possibilities with that awesome project.
Congratulations.

I generally don't care for albino tri-colors but that is one incredible looking animal Trevor. Looks well cared for too. Nice work. You and Chris need to hookup and form a scarlet king coalition.
...is this one!

Very, very cool.
Almost makes my Scarlet look drab by comparison.
Trevor
No way. But it is cool. I think it was found in e. TX.

Surrender Dorothy!
was indeed from East Texas, near a little town called Porter (25 minutes or so from my home in The Woodlands). It was supposedly collected by some deer hunters(sometime around 1998-2000)and given to my friend Craig Howard who owned and ran a local pet store at the time. I had a chance to see this snake in person a few times before it died a couple years back. It was a phenomenal looking creature, almost too good to be true. It was a male and I believe there were a few attempts to bred him to some females but I never heard if offspring were ever produced.
Hopefully God will one day allow another one of these marvelous animals to be discovered.
Nathan Wells
Thanks Nathan. I had lost what info I had on it and would've liked to credit the photo's owner..
If you know who took that pic, could you?
I think it was an ETHS member?
Thanks.

Surrender Dorothy!
I can't remember exactly Mark but I want to say it was either Craig himself, or it could have been Robert Edwards, Brian Williams, John Wisser or any one of the ETHS guys.
I'll see what I can come up with for you.
Nathan
that coral is sick!!!

Holy [bleep]e, that's awesome! I can't get over the head! I'm typically a locality guy, but I appreciate a nice looking morph just as much as anyone. Breed that boy up!
-Cole
Damn, he has the coolest face of any albino i have seen!
Best,
Vinny

“There is a grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that whilst this planet has gone on cycling according to the fixed laws of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” -C. Darwin, 1859
But I would be remiss if I didnt mention the last 3 albino SKs found never made it into the hobby. Its in great shape, but its important to ALL of us to see that gene reproduced. I said the same thing to Joe M here last year, unique finds like this should be shared. Make us proud! Congrats!
Exacly!,....I mentioned the same thing to Joe last year as well.
To us herpers, these are both sort of like the "white tigers" in zoos that have been produced and shared throughout the world.
To miss an oportunity to pass on his amelanism gene to some others would be truly disheartening, especially since the other few known specimens in the past have failed miserably.

wild caught in S.FL.........I think that's one of mine that got away from my Central FL home. Is he red white and yellow? Yup, it's mine!! Man he travels fast..must be tastier mice down y our way. Anyway you can return him back to its rightful owner anytime!!!!!
the only one out there? very nice!
Yep. The only one that's currently known to exist.
Trevor
So what you're saying is, that the one I saw back in 1996 at the Orlando Reptile Expo is dead, and the other known one later on that I have a pic of is also dead?
~Doug

Is this an older photo of your albino that I have,..or one of the others?. This one looks VERY healthy, so it just might be yours from a while back.

Albino SK's are incredibly beautiful. If they were larger (3'--5'), they'd probably be THE most popular pet snake. That yellow is gorgeous!
Yep, that's my boy.
That particular image is over a year old, and was taken with a really lousy camera. However, it does serve as a much better illustration of just how bright his colors really are (post-shed).
Trevor
Yeah, I thought that it looked exactly like yours.
BTW,....even the crappy camera can't make that snake look bad!..LOL!

Surrender Dorothy!
Yes it is.
That photo was taken shortly before I acquired him.
Trevor
I've no idea whether those other animals you've mentioned are still alive or not.
I mention mine as being the only one currently known to exist by virtue of the uncertainty surrounding these other examples (and their whereabouts/status).
I did read (here I believe) that there was another amel Scarlet in captivity several years back, but that it fell victim to a 'rack accident' (runaway thermostat?).
Of course, there may also be siblings to this guy still roaming the wilds...
Anyway, that's all I know.
Trevor
I want a pair of those when I grow up.

Randy Whittington
LOL, Randy you will never grow up, but you always crack me up! What's going on in your neck of the cacti? P.M. me.
