Xantusia vigilis and sierrae

Henri Jun 20, 2008 10:46 AM

Hi all,

I'm an european reptile enthusiast and looking for some Xantusia, and these 2 species are not protected so I'm asking myself if they are easy to catch, if a permit is needed and as I know there is some commercial catchers is some catchers would be having some !

Thanks in advance !

They're relatively easy to find in the wild, but I've never seen them offered for sale. I think their small size and secretive nature makes them unattractive to most hobbyists. What's known as the Yellow Spotted Night Lizard (Lepidophyma flavimaculatum) shows up on price lists from time to time - these are larger than North American types.

Thanks,

This vigilis is really nice !

I didn't know they were easy to catch !

I love all Xantusidae, and have had some Lepidophyma for long but would love to breed some desertic ones.

I don't mind animals beeing secretive, I already have some Charina bottae and I'm going to get some Atractaspis and I'm looking forward to the delisting of Xantusia riversiana that seem to be on the rails, then I'm taking a plane for nice hollidays in California .
