catcus?

mdcougall Jun 20, 2008 11:33 AM

there are some cool cacti in the garden center of my gocery store and i was wondering if it would be ok to put some in with Mac (my uro) since they are naturally a desert lizard? Would Mac just eat the or could he hurt himself on them?
thanks!

If there are pricks on the cactus it can potentially harm your Uro. Most people avoid any type of live plants, as they require water which adds humidity to the tank, and some (such as cactus) could do more harm then good.

most cacti are toxic, and those probably are.

I've been told succulents are ok but you need to know what kinds they are.
A nursery might be a better place to check for that sort of thing. Prickly pear cacti are safe and good for uros to eat. Remove the spines prior to feeding though.

I used to work in a pet store, and as a gimic they had these "cactus balls" that were plastic. They are very soft, and look great in the tank. Just a thought:
