The colors on some of those are brilliant.
What are those white sides??

Surrender Dorothy!
Those are white sided ratsnakes.
tThe first pic is of a whitesided blackrat (aka Licorice stick black rat)originated by George Misskimmon. I got into these early on before most people.
The second pic is of a whietsided blackrat crossed with a whitesided everglades rat. The whitesided blackrat (Licorice stick) is allelic with the whietsided everglades.
The whietsided everglades rat was called a "ghost Glades" and has been around a lot longer than the whitesided blackrat. Gulf Coast reptiles originated the Ghost Glades and coined that tern and miskimmon originated the WS Blackrat and cioned the term Licorice stick. I recognized that the Ghost Glades was a whitesided trait and bred the two together. What came out were these fellows.
I think that a lot of the reccssive traits we have are allelic. Which proves that most snakes originated from a single ancestor snake and they are all hybrids anyway.
LOL!

All are stunning. Those speckled king x ratsnake models have a great look to them. Very intriguing, I really like those. Is that a glossy in there too?
-----
Mark
yep those are baby glossys I produced.
I think they are a better snake than the cornsnake. I have never had a captive born refuse a mouse pinky right off the start.
I just don't know why these aere not more popular.

Morphs... just like baseball cards BUT ALIVE, how cool is that???
my website www.barmollysplace.com
I was greatly saddened to see what you and others have done with *natural*, wild animals which were once Hunters, now turned into colorful Scavengers feeding on frozen-thawed meals (for your convenience).
Denying them even the ability to stalk their live food, the one last thing they might have done in your cage.
Your desire for candy-cane replicas is altering entire species. To breed for color, of course, requires two things:
1. Inbreeding with relatives to begin or enhance the line.
2. Disregarding the fact that other traits like alertness, stalking skills or instinct will be compromised or lost.
I've seen examples of snakes bred for specific colors; they are pathetic. One Cal King bred for a labyrinth pattern could no longer even strike prey correctly. His behavior was moronic.
I'm reminded of goldfish with large, bulbous eyes which cannot survive outside of an aquarium; radically different from the natural Carp stock from which they were bred.
The descendents of these mutants will no longer even resemble their ancestors.
When will Humans (those demonstrating that which is humane) learn to allow animals to remain what they ARE, rather than breeding them to be what YOU want them to become???
It would be illegal to do this to other Humans, but or course, captive animals kept in cages have no rights and cannot begin to comprehend the damage you are doing to their genetic lines.
I prefer natural kingsnakes - in natural colors and patterns - with full instincts & functionality.

If you have even ONE pet kingsnake, then you are a hypocrite and are just like the rest of us.
It's OK, though. Just keep it in mind.

"All the fancy names in the world will be of no help if you do not know the difference between chocolate pudding and pig poop." -Frank Retes
especially since you mentioned inbreeding and such.
But for everyone else sake that might have taken your post serious I should say that inbreeding in colubrids dos not exist and most N. american colubrids are results of hybrids estblishing themselves. That is why most of the reccessive genes are allelic. Further studies show that most kings and milks originated from the south american milk. I bet if you go back only 100-200 yrs you will find all sorts of different looking snakes in the same places we think they have been for umpteen million years.
Also here is a pic of a Gopher x Calif king hybrid that was found in central calif on a large private ranch. So you can see that hybrids do exist in the wild.
What is also interesting is that these hybrids are the least of the inbred snakes. They are fresher genes being comipled. Have you ever heard of something called HYBRID VIGOR? That is a good thing because the snakes are stronger captives and are not as delicate and eat better and have stroger chances to survive into the wild.
Most natural wil hybrids breed back into one of the other parent species and that is why we find oddities and specially marked specimes.
That is the vioce of reason.LOL!
But didn't mean to bust your chops since I think you were just being ficticious. but some newbies might take your advice and actually beleive it.,

Ameron, your last sentence would have been enough. I know how you feel about locality stock, etc. but this is by far more of a breeding forum and as such the hybrid people have as much right to their animals and opinions as anyone. Please feel free to state your feelings, but be prepared for what comes, just as the hybrid folk prepare themselves, lol! Besides, how many generations before your locality kings exhibit the same traits you saw in your friends' kings? I see that in many c.b. cal kings. I agree on natural live prey but if you have any, even one in a cage, you have no leg to stand on, they are not hunting in their habitat but yours, eating your choice of food not theirs, sleeping in your idea of home, not theirs, and utilizing the temp gradient you choose for them. Please realize you are railing against yourself as a keeper on this one.

Todd Hughes
Well, at least the poster did qualify all his post by stating that he prefers the natural morph to others. If it is only a personal preference then I do not think anyone has a problem with your posting. I prefer the natural morph myself, but certainly wouldn't take anyone to task for producing whatever the heck they wish to, so long as they stay out of the natural population's genetics, which they do. I wonder if you would extend your reasoning to dogs as well, where the same thing has been going on, although for many thousands of years more than in our recent herpetocultural forays?
"I resemble that remark."-Curly Howard
It would be illegal to do this to other Humans, but or course, captive animals kept in cages have no rights and cannot begin to comprehend the damage you are doing to their genetic lines.
Unless you live in the US the land of immigrants past, present and future....as the soup Nazi would say "No Soup for you"
goldfish are all cassarius auratus(sp) the grotesque abnormalities are morphes of the same animal IMHO and studies.possibly you are refering to KOI(Carpius) which are selective bred for LONG TIME!But they have been bred to the european and Asian species to achieve Doitsu(scaleless or semi scaleless) and the LOOONGG fin varieties. NOT to bust your bubble but ..???

Haven't proven him out yet, waiting for a locality female. I may have to get one from someone and try next year if I don't stumble on a locality female this year. It might be local variance though. This snake is milk chocolate with a dark chocolate head, no black.
