Point of interest on USFW Permit

BrianSharp Jun 20, 2008 02:48 PM

I'm acquiring some Eastern Indigos from two different people this summer, and learned something that may be of interest and benefit to future Eastern Indigo buyers.

During a recent telephone conversation with David Dell, the primary USFW person responsible for issuance of the Interstate Commerce Permit, I mentioned that I was intending to buy some Easterns from two different individuals. He volunteered that both purchases could be covered under the same permit, and that if I included the required information on both transactions in my application it would save me $100 and the extra time and effort needed to fill out and submit a second application. Maybe this is already known in the Indigo community, but it was news to me.

David's suggestion provided a very reasonable, non-bureaucratic solution to my situation. I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by the can-do attitude of both the Virginia Fish and Game and USFW people with whom I have dealt throughout the permitting process.

My experience last year with NYSDEC and USFWS regarding state and USDI permits for indigos was very good.

Where are you getting your indies from?

I'm getting some from Robert Bruce, and a pair of Jeff Jones yearlings from Steve Angeli.

I kept pre-act Easterns as a kid in the early 60s, so this will be like coming home. Along with the Yellow tails and Texas Indigos, the Easterns will probably round out the Drys for me.

Should be a fun summer!
