Tri-Color questions

MikeBurns01 Jun 21, 2008 01:26 AM

I am considering picking up a couple tri-colors, but had a few questions.

1. How much are neonate Lystrophis going for nowdays?

2. When people refer to double-clutching, do they do it on their own? Do you keep the pair together? Do you have to re-brumate them? Sorry, I just dont get it.

Thanks!

Tricolors do not "double clutch", they lay all year long!! They retain sperm like crazy so you do NOT want to keep them together, or the female will lay herself to death. Last year I had a female lay 8 clutches, I tried stopping her after 4! I also do not brumate mine at all (kinda hard to do in sunny FL) and I never have any issues with breeding, heck my Westerns laid in November last year---go figure. Tricolors are great animals, but they just don't work like other hoggies.

And as far as cooling and breeding, is there anything written about it online? Is it basically the same westerns?

Pretty much the same, although I do not cool mine.
