Fungus problem

SteveH Sep 01, 2003 10:43 PM

I got a snapper from a turtle farm that had been kept in a plastic tub far a few months without water changes.I put him in a tub with clean water. After a few days I noticed his feet where shedding skin in layers(white)with a pinkish color underneath.Would a fungus/bacteria product for fish work on turtles? Thanks for any advice, Steve

I have yet to encounter a situation where I could purchase a fish medication for the treatment of reptiles or amphibians. It may be that they simply are not safe. The appropriate thing to do here would be to take it to a veterinarian and get a culture to determine exactly what the cause of the skin problem is, and also how to treat it properly. One of the reasons why we have bacterial resistance to our antibiotics is from people diagnosing problems themselves and treating it improperly.
