Hey what a wonderful caiman. How do you have him set-up. What size cage. Do you have any pictures of his set-up. Once again cool caiman.

here is a vid showing alot of his enclosure. His current enclosure is a 8L x 4W x 3H acrylic with a 125gallon sump filtration system beneath it to filter the water and heat it.

killer enclosure and killer song!

That is one sweat enclosure. I have been looking at acrylic tanks for my caiman (18” right now). I was wondering if yours scratches up the acrylic a lot. Also I have heard rumors about the heat lamps warping the acrylic or melting it. I was wondering if you have had any trouble with that. Also what wattage lights are you using? Thanks for any info, it is truly appreciated.

No real scratch issues that are an issue or distracting..there is minor surface scratches due to jumping during feeding time along the water areas, but again nothing that is really noticable. As for lighting..there is a 72" fan cooled dual power compacts(coralife fixture),and one heat lamp over a large basking area-no warp or issues as they do not come in contact since it has almaost 3ftx3ft top openings..so nothing really gets close to the acrylic..also the lamps are on timers as the herp room that the enclosure is in stays around 82-85* so the heat lamps are really used only for UV rather than heat.

I'm sure it will get some light scratches but once a year or so you can drain the water, remove the animal and pass a benzomatic torch or maybe even a heat gun over the scratches. It will melt the scratches and clear up the acrylic, provided that the scratches are not too deep.
I would worry more about a cooked crocodilian than warped acrylic with high temperatures.
