Getting Euro Rankins into the U.S.

gthomason Jun 22, 2008 01:29 AM

I have read where they are working on some really cool morphs such as pastels and hypos of Rankins/Lawsons in Europe. Are these hybrids, or are they true henrylawsoni morphs? If they are lawsoni how can we get some of these here in the states? Any suggestions on where to start?

Rankins Dragons and Lawsons dragons are the same animal..there just was some debate on the name in the past. Now they are officially Lawson's dragons.

As for importing them into the US from Europe, the process is the same for any other animal...first you have to find a breeder who has an export license who is willing to ship them to the US. CITES permits may be required as well, not sure...but if I remember correctly most of this will be done on the exporter's side..though they probably charge extra for it, as its not free to get a permit and that CITES permit is one time thing.

I know European dragons have been imported into the US before, but don't remember exactly all the procedures required. You may need to be a accrediting zoo or breeding program to do it.

We are working to get some nice P. henrylawsoni morphs. We use only pure P. henrylawsoni's. When you ever want to import some you can contact us.

The question is: Can they be traced to pre-ban animals, or legal Aussie imports? If they can't be traced or verified, USFW won't let them in. It's not their job, but they do it anyway. Thats why we don't have alot of the new Aussies here in the US. Canada will let them in, if you can brave the Tundra.........
