Vanilla, my pos super ghost dropped her litter tonight and has proven herself a super, all the babies are hypos!! Bred by two motley males the litter is a mix of Hypo Motley's het Anery and DH Ghosts. At least 16 babies (one slug) and at 108 days are full term and looking great, will post pics tomorrow, gotta play with them for a while, most are still chillin in the nest box where they were born.

Hey Step, saw your correction, since mom proved out as super Ghost (homozygous hypo, homozygous Anery) the babies fall into one of two phenotypes..

Pastel Motley DH Ghost - Pastel + one each Motley, Hypo and Anery genes

Pastel DH Ghost - Pastel + one each Hypo and Anery genes

Well, my girl Vanilla (pos super Ghost) proved super so all babies are Hypos!! Woohoo!!! Due right in the middle of my vacation, she waited until I got back to drop her babies.

So, Super Ghost x Pastel Motley.....

16 babies, only one slug

6 Hypo Pastel Motley het Anery (or is that Pastel Motley DH Ghost?)

10 Pastel DH Ghosts

as promised pics....

I gave mom a nest box and she used it, some peat moss on the bottom and some green moss on top, she laid the babies between the layers. Probably similar to in the wild, laying the babies hidden under forest litter etc.

This little baby was poking just it's nose through the moss....periscope up?

After pulling away the moss, the pile of slimers...

The Pastel DH Ghosts...

The Pastel Motley DH Ghosts, the Orangetail line really does work well with Motley for holding the Motley pattern.

Thanks for looking....

I basically found her in the middle of pushing them out so left her alone for a half hour or so. Didn't want to interupt, after all, mother knows best!!

When I went back is when I found her still in the box with them and took that first pic (actually several) Then carefully pulled her out, used a glove but she was a sweetie.

The babies were in no rush to move along so after a while I put the nest box back in the cage with mom and kept checking back in every 15 or so minutes. Mom was always perched on the edge of the box watching her babies (and probably watching over them as well) Again used a glove to get her off but she was fine but I strongly suspect had some predator come along it would have had to get past mom first. So cool seeing the materal instinct in these "unthinking" animals.

I often wonder how scientists who claim animals have no feelings or intellect come to that opinion (it can't be from observing animals in the wild). I really wish we could overhear what boas are thinking!

Does that mean you have the mind of a snake, Jeff? Of course, since the boa is my silent partner, you'll have to use telepathy.
I understand there are "pet psychics" who claim to be able to read animals' minds---over the phone, no less. Should I just put Loki on the phone, Jeff?

Sure, let me give you my special phone number. If using a pay phone be sure to keep inserting the quarters. I actually have a close relative who has spent lots of money on psychics.

I think I'd trust Loki to give me a more accurate reading than a phone psychic. Weren't snakes once used to forecast the future? I just looked it up; yup! "Ophidiomancy---divination using snakes." I have no idea HOW they used them and I'm not sure I want to know! But here's a shot of Loki using his snakey powers to foretell the future for us (hey it's as accurate as an 8-ball)!

Hmmmm, never knew that, thanks for the factoid. I'll have to consult Jack for a fortune telling session.

I think the word should be changed to Ophidiocy!

Thanks,
Ed

Yeah, Ed, I thought it sounded like idiocy was part of the root word!
Let me know what Jack foretells (no doubt that he will soon meet an attractive little rodent of mysterious origin...).
