Mites???

theLady Jun 22, 2008 03:19 AM

Hey guys, I have been noticing a little bug in my snakes water dish a couple times a week. I've already treated the enclosure with mite spray, a couple times. When treating I soak the decor that's in the cage pretty good and let sun dry. But still these little sh*ts are in her cage. Now tonight I saw one in there and it was flying between the glass n her house all retarded like. It flying was my concern, is it a mite? Can those f*ckers fly?! Thanks!!!

Mites do not fly.. But, it's still not great to have bugs in your enclosures. I would take everything out of the tank, wash it well and reset the tank with newspaper substrate, a plastic hide box, and a water dish. Your tank may not look as nice to you, but your animal will be bug free!

They are common in the summer time. They do not hurt the snakes. Just irratating if they fly up your nose..

What the knats are after is the poop from the snake or left over decomposing rodent. Sometimes changing the shavings or bedding is all that is needed.

If you spray the cage with mite spray you should remove the water dish before . I would also clean the cages of all mite spray before returning the water dish.

There is different types of mite sprays and treaments. Depends on what you are using. Some are detrimental to the snakes. Some are not.
