Couple of questions about my Vieled

jrbl Sep 01, 2003 11:11 PM

I was wondering if anyone has a vieled with purple? My males' verticle bands are purple. I have never seen thiscoloration before, but it might be more common than I think. Also, my male vieled keeps on going to the bottom of his cage. When I put him on the base of the tree in my yard, he turns around and climbs down to the ground. I was thinking maybe it was too hot further up in his cage, but it was not. I know their natural instinct to go up, so I though going down might be a bad sign. Thanks, jrbl

Hi,
Yes, male veileds can have purple - our Vinny does too. It is a deep plum purple.

Many of the chams want to wander when we put them outside in trees. We place them higher in the tree to start - then usually have to herd them back up. They have to get down... to get somewhere else.

Sitting on the bottom of his cage is different. Is he walking around? Is he hunting? Does he scratch on the door to be let out? If he isn't down there too often - then I would think he is just checking out his turf - or may be looking to get out.

Hope this helps,
