Lucy triple clutches...

FRoberts Jun 22, 2008 02:16 PM

I only tried breeding her twice and she has decided to drop a third with no re breeding from any males.

First was lucy to lucy 9 out of 9 hatched out already.

Second is still incubating and has like 3 weeks to go still.

Second she was bred to that orange rat snake (but maybe he sired third and second is a lucy clutch)

Third was laid 6 days after she shed like other two clutches this year. She laid in between the 21st and 22nd at night. I had put in an egg box cause she looked to be gravid to me. I had not re bred her again but she had that distinct OVAL look to her that made me think she was going to drop some eggs.

12 eggs.

9 appear to be fertile but I am incubating them all to be sure.

Interestingly I will have to wait to see who sired the clutches. If it's not a lucy then it's the orange snake. It is possible both could be sires. She looks no worse for the wear though.

Egg Box...

Removed to incubation box (vermiculite)...

(3 towards back look to be infertile but one has good area and is attached to that other egg)

finished incubation box...without lid of course...

pic's of mom from today after cleaning her and enclosure and removing eggs etc...

I was wondering what would prompt a third clutch, she eats quite well.

A note I do not hibernate them either.

(orange generic rat snake was hibernated for 3 months at 50 degrees)

She... shed, bred, shed and laid.

Bred shed laid.

Shed Laid.

All in 3 months time (appox)

Interesting, indeed! Was that a rossalleni she mated with? Wonder what the offspring will look like?

Sincerely,
Matthew

Orange snake is part black yellow and everglades, but mostly everglades.

Bubblegum bred to a everglades... then bred to a Blotchless Everglades from dwight good, this snake is ORANGE...

Frank,

Yep, it was an orange snake. I'd try to keep those yellow genes away though, too many 'Glades already ARE half-yellow.

Matthew
Can't wait to see those babies!

FRoberts Jun 24, 2008 01:00 PM

The male bubble gum (albino) and eberything after that was everglades blood, I did not orignaly bred the two snakes that made the orange ones, one was from dwight good and another unknown. I just bred them out for orange from those two snakes.

I also wanted no blotches in the adults.

Frank,

Well the END result was a very nice orange ratsnake that would do ANY P. obselata rossalleni ('Glades Rat.) PROUD.
And I might want to give one of those orange intergrades a home. Just a small hint! <G>

Sincerely,
Matthew

"Well the END result was a very nice orange ratsnake that would do ANY P. obselata rossalleni ('Glades Rat.) PROUD."

I think so too. Well I will know in a few weeks if the orange snake sired the second clutch the eggs are nice and swollen, but I don't get excited till I see head's poppin out of the eggs, I am a pessimist by nature.

Waiting IS hard ain't it? LOL
I'm having a hard time. Maybe you'll get mixed offspring? I try NOT to be pessimistic but I'm usually that way too..

Sincerely,
Matthew

FRoberts Jun 24, 2008 03:47 PM

It is very possible to get mixed offspring from either the second or third clutch, time will tell.

Good thing is since one sire is a lucy it will be easy to decipher.

Orange rat snake is het for blotchless and pos het bubblegum (albino) rat snake.

There may be albino blood in the lucy's cause some have red eyes not blue.

Could be very interesting.

Wow Frank! That's one fertile snake! Nice looking leucistic (Texas or black?) rat too. Best of luck with all of the eggs.

Those are not hybrids...

Intergrades to some.

I believe Black and Texas rat snakes are the same snake just different variants (color/pattern)

Mine are texas rat snakes, but I did breed her to an orange generic rat snake as well.

I've heard of polypaternity before. In the case I recall, the non-albino parent won out (probably stronger sperm). Those were bred close together producing one litter. Can't wait to hear the outcome of these two clutches.

That's what I like about this breeding, you can clearly tell the father. I bred a king to a different male this year, won't know if any sperm is stored from last year's mate. Looking forward to your results!
