How exactly does a snake...

bizkit421 Jun 22, 2008 02:39 PM

get into a mailbox unassisted?

LONDONDERRY, N.H. (AP) - A Londonderry, New Hampshire, woman got more than she bargained for when she opened her mailbox this week. A 3-foot-long snake was inside.

Police captured the snake Tuesday and took it a pet store, where employees identified it as a non-poisonous corn snake. The pet store figures it may have been a pet that was abandoned and may have made its way into the mailbox on its own.

Corn snakes are generally found in the southeastern United States.

I think it accidentally got into a shipment of a Claxton Fruit Pie from Georgia, escaped from the package inside of the mailbox and set up residence in the far back of the box which as we all know harbors rodents, eggs, small birds and lizards. He was living happily in there for years when the owner of the mailbox slipped while reaching for the mail and grabbed the snake. See, there is always a logical and reasonable explanation for everything(except how the bubbles go down when you get a Guinness draft).

And I recall we both were smugly satisfied with the reasoning but, alas, I , too, have totally fogotten why. Perhaps we can come up with another answer over wings today.

That's a long drive for wings and a beer.

I'm not second guessing the "pet shop employees" but I would like to see a photo of the snake in question as eastern milks are native to Londonderry, NH and are often mistaken for corn snakes. Regardless, it is pretty odd that the snake ended up in the mailbox!
