Sick/Dying Beardie

Tik Jun 22, 2008 05:14 PM

Hi everyone, I have used this forum a long time in the past and have always gotten great advice.

My beardie is around 6 years old and he has just been laying around with no movement except his eyes opening and closing, very lethargic, doesnt eat veggies or any insects anymore. He is still able to drink water and I just gave him a soaking to make sure he is somewhat hydrated.

He is on filterd sand substrate. Basking temps is in the 100 and there are various hiding spots for him.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Oh... forgot to add: the cage is 2'x2'x4'

Have been feeding him collard greens with the occassional green beans. Sometimes he gets mealworms as treats. And there is always some dried BD pellets in there.

I guess I am more concerned about impaction, but he didnt even attempt a bowel movement when he was soaked.

how long has he been lethargic? What has changed in his feeding etc...did he just stop eating suddenly, or been cutting down over the last few weeks?

I feel like I've said this a thousand times. lol. But, everyone should have a weight scale. If you told me he was lethargic, and had no appetite, but was not losing any weight I wouldn't be all that concerned. But, if he is lethargic and losing weight that would make me suspect illness. Have you had him looked over by a vet. I think 6 years is young for a BD to pass. I'd really try to figure out whats going on.

To answer your question, he has not been losing any weight. I was going to take him to the vet today.

Unfortunately, over the night, he passed away. I cannot see any breathing and he is limp. It's unfortunate and I am definitely going to miss Longshanks.

I want to thank everyone on this forum. Everyone was extremely helpful and I relied on much of your advice on making sure I was doing things right when he was younger.

I'm really sorry for your loss.
