WEIRD, anyone ever seen anything like it

OZZ1978 Jun 23, 2008 09:21 AM

This female produced a clutch for me about 30 days ago. 11 total, her first ever litter, six of which hung on for about 3 weeks and then just last week hardened up leaving me wiht 5 nice strong eggs left (bummer).

Anyway ever since she laid the clutch her feces have had this weird coloration. Literally its flourecent. I did not alter these photographs in anyway. I snapped a few this morning because its a good example.

Anyone know what is going on with her? She is eating, although her food drive seems a bit less then normal as shes eaten only twice since dropping the clutch (twice in 3 weeks) Shes going into shed now and to be honest I think shes ovulating again as she looks like she might be swelling up and her food intake certainly doesnt give justice to her putting on weight.

Any suggestions?? Maybe a retained egg? Infection of some kind?? She seems fine overall but ... ????

I think Im going to take her off the aspen in case she is ingesting it during feeding.

That about the same time I switched them over to aspen from newspaper ..

... I suspect its from ingesting the aspen while feeding ... Ill switch her over to newspaper tonight ..

Its not the aspen.

Someone explained this once. At the moment it slips my mind. There is a very logical reason though. Sorry I just can't remember. But at least now you know it isn't the aspen.

... what the general concensus was? Is it something to worry about? Certainly seems so to me, Ive never had this happen before ...

Flourecent poop ... lol .... a new one by me!

Has there been a lot of recent alien abduction in the area? That could explain it. She mearly ate one of the little creatures and has pooped him out at our house.

If that is not the answer I suggest you have fr come over and talk to her to see what is really wrong with her. Cheers

Weird color poo is fairly common if the rodents you feed your snake eat multi-colored pellets or other colored foods. Is that a possibility here?

Im not sure ... they were ordered from a breeder so its certainly possible.

Thanks for the input!

people in here say it's from bacteria in the snake.....I see green in the uric acids from time to time in alot of snakes..but not in all and not all the time.

the flourescent glowing stuff happens ...but not like normal green......

.......save it....make something from it?.......LOL

......it's not that bad a deal..

.it's not from mice eating fruit loops

...it's not from aspen..

it's not that uncommon

.....it may be the water even?..I have a well........wait..the dog and us don't pee green....

yes....and it's not fecal matter it's uric acid....

I see it from time to time, I just equated it to being the result of bile from the gallbladder of the prey item... it's the only source of "green" I can think of within the prey... i've never had a problem with a snake that has had green urates...

I had this same thing happen today with one of my milks but it was more of a blue/green florescent color. There was also a lot of mold (I think) growing in the corner where the feces was. I had spot cleaned the tubs last night and there was neither feces or mold there. This is the first time I have ever seen either in any of my cages.

I have seen this!!!

I have asked so many people and no one has known!

It happens to my anthill pythons after long periods of fasting. The males get it at the end of breeding season and the females get it at the end of gestation. It only happens to one or two snakes each year (out of a large group) and different snakes each year.

I can't figure out what specifically causes it and I have asked several vets.

Check out this pic of green urates - not edited!
