Selamectin and Snakes

scaledverts Jun 23, 2008 09:47 AM

Does anyone have any knowledge or know where to find information about the effects of selamectin (revolution) on snakes? I have an old article that gives dosages for ivermectin (in the micrograms) for some parasites. However, I have not seen anything about selamectin. The reason I ask is that many people use selamectin to treat mites and fleas in their rodent colonies. There is a potential that rodents coming from a breeder might have been treated with selamectin. I just wanted to get people's thoughts/opinions about the subject.

Thanks

Although I don't know anything regarding Selamectin, I left you an important post about Ivermectin on the "kingsnake" forum.

Never heard of it.

Consider that whatever the dosage is in rodents, that after it is in the rodents body now the concentration is way less.

Thus, the tiny amount eaten by the reptile is largely sub-therapeutic.

The only thing I'd worry about is if you feed FT and the ENTIRE batch was recently treated then you are giving a small dose every feeding over some long time.

Just ask your rodent supplier. I did mine and she hasn't used a "___-mectin" in years.
