PVC pipe as terrarium furniature.

how well would a large section of PVC pipe covered in something to provide grip function as a basking/climbing/or hiding area? i know it is used in the manufacture of larger terrariums for iguanas but under the heat requirements for bearded dragons would it tend to out gas?
