As I was leaving the house today...

Hollychan Jun 23, 2008 07:46 PM

I saw a very beautiful, skinny snake crossing my road. I stopped and ran back to watch him and make sure he did get across the road before my neighbors drove by (I know they would swerve to hit him :P ) He looked like a very skinny, very silvery cornsnake, but I believe he was either a gray rat or a juvenile black racer. He was only about three feet long, and very slender. I was kicking myself for not having my digital camera with me, but I'll keep it in the van next time. I was just so excited to see one near my house, since we haven't seen any snakes in the yard for a few years now. We had a lot of rain lately, so I figured some might pop up.

Holly,......glad to hear you didn't let the neighbors run it over!.. BTW, What area of what state do you live in?.....it does sound like maybe a light colored Gray Ratsnake if it had darker Blotches on that sivery/gray colored background.....juvenile Black Racer's loose their blotched pattern by the time they're three feet long.

Panama City. Redneck Rivera... take your pick.

His splotches were pretty light, that's why I thought gray ratsnake. He was so beautiful! I hope I can get a picture of him next time. ^_^ I haven't mowed the yard in a really long time, so the grass is ready to bale... >_< I figured when I go to mow tomorrow, I might see a snake or two. I'm going to keep a sharp eye out for them, I sure don't want to run over any!

Ah! yes!,......definitely Gray Rat territory.

Be careful to go real slow with the lawn mower though!, you don't want to hear a strange "thud" sound from underneath!..
