WYFF (Greenville, S Carolina) 13 June 08 Man Loading Lumber Bitten By Snake, Hospitalized
Greenville County, S.C.: A Greenville County man was bitten by a snake while loading lumber on Thursday.
Authorities said Brent Davis was working with his brother at a home on Fews Chapel Road near Blue Ridge High School.
Davis picked up a piece of wood and a snake underneath bit his toe without letting go. He screamed for help and the homeowner rushed to his aid.
"Then I went in and got my pistol and came out where he got the snake bite beside the building,” homeowner Johnny Long said. “The snake was still there, and I got lucky I guess because I'm not a gun shooter. I shot it twice and hit it in the head both times."
Long said he thinks the snake was a copperhead. Paramedics went to his home and checked on Davis before taking him to a local hospital.
