>>Speaking of the Lyre snake...did one ever bite you? If so, did it affect you in any way? I always liked that snake...but never found one alive (in Arizona).

I have, by a 3ft nice robust male Lyre, one I raised up. Made me bleed, but he hit and let go, didn't chew. Nothing happened to me afterwards.
Lyre's aren't real trustworthy snakes. They are always cautious. I recommend using a snake hook in general. It's not that they strike when you pick them up, it is more when you are holding them and make a sudden movement, or someone else does so near you.
I raised a female as well. She would sit near the cage door and wait for food, take it right out of the tongs like I was feeding a big boa or something. All of mine were excellent feeders on thawed rodents, and they would feed morning, noon or night - they didn't care. The babies sometimes needed some lizard scenting for a few meals, but then never looked back.
Babies are escape artists. They will get through gaps that will stop a baby milksnake, even though their (the lyre's) heads seem bigger. I understand how they can exist in rock crevices. Those eyes are so cool.
