Question of lightning

Swedish_lizard Sep 02, 2003 04:27 AM

Hi again. I've found out that my petstore really sucks when it comes to leos. Nor only did they told me that 1 cricket every third day is enough (because they won't grow that fast). They also told me that a moisturehide is not necessary at all (they haven't had any problem with rugging). And the best part, sand, (surely I could use sand, impact on the lizard?? Nooo, they haven't heard anything about that). Luckily I found the experts in time YOU.
So, now on to my question about lightning, because I don't trust my petseller anymore [for obvious reason]. Today I have a aqua with a lightramp (two lights) and a spot. Additional I have a heatpad as well (which is running 24 hours). My question is; is that too much? My leo is not out while all lights is turned on after all. I have put a timer on lightramp and on spot, they will turn on at 4:30 am (spot) resp 5:00 (ramp) and they will turn off at 5:00 pm (ramp) resp 5:30 (spot). Is that ok? Or should I adjust the timers.
My last question about light is; how about nightlight. Should there be any light on during the night?

you don't need lighting at all. an under tank heater (UTH) is plenty. you should also attach a rhetrostat (spelling) with probe to govern your temperature and make sure that your UTH isn't running "MAX" power.

Welcome to the forum and I wish you all the luck with your leo.

I don't use any timers for my lighting, because I keep my tanks in my bedroom, which gets natural lighting. My geckos start showing more activity around sunset (6:00ish). If I walk into my room and leave the lights on for too long (10 minutes or so), they'll resume hiding.

This post probably didn't help you at all, so I guess you should wait for someone else to answer. lol
